One of my very faves in this world is Jeff Sipe. Any of you guys ever hear Temporal Analogues of Paradise by Shawn Lane, Jonas Hellborg and Jeff? I swear, that album changed my life. Just two half hour jams and that's the record!
Also, check out the Aquarium Rescue Unit. Those guys were ridiculously funky!
I flew to Atlanta a couple of years ago to see Hellborg/Lane/Sipe trio and had a chance to hang with him. He was a very laid back and gracious guy. Later when he came to Tampa with Susan Tedeschi I got the chance to deliver some drum heads to him (I was working at a drum shop at the time)at the Performing Arts Center and he hooked me up with a pass for the next night at the HOB in Kissimmee. After the show we hung out on the bus and he played me stuff from his then upcoming solo record. Crazy stuff. Ever hear a distorted bassoon?
Anyway, his solo record is out. You can find it at www.abstractlogix.com which is a great site for fusion in all it's forms.
Seeya!

Yeah, Jeff's a great player! His stuff with ARU was great. Also, I suggest the album "Laughing Water" by Jazz Is Dead. Alphonso Johnson plays bass on that one, and Jeff shares the drum chair with Rod Morgenstein. Some of the stuff they play on that album is damn funky, some real great grooves on it. Great stuff.

Any Jazz is Dead material is always to my liking. Didn't even know Jeff was on there! Must check out the trio record too - thanks for the suggestion! Boy, so many CDs on my "To Buy..." list. Donations, anyone?

i was given a "hellborg lane sipe" cd long ago by a bass player friend of mine.
the name was sthg about a hotel room...like "apt 48" or so.
haven't listened to it for ages but makes me wanna check it out again.
That's one very cool thing about this board;it always makes you wanna hear things that you somehow almost forgot about.
Thanks guys.

I've dug JS w ARU for a long time now. Cool jam band. I dig 'em.
Thx for the HU on all his stuff from you folks here. I def need to check out the Lane / Helborg & JID stuff w him for sure. From what mp3s I've heard of it, I also dig JS' replacement [in ARU; I believe it's-] Sean O'Rourke AW.
Saw Boomer Cob w JID live when they hit town here a year or so ago...was a very cool show. BC was very pleasant aft.
Would've liked to have seen JID w JS [& also Rod] too...
